Advancing the arts in community life across Australia

At the Effie Baker Foundation, we work for the advancement of the arts in community life. We see this practically expressed in the contribution of the arts to humanity’s nobility and oneness. The arts bridge differences and raise consciousness about justice and equity, and removal of all forms of prejudice.

Our efforts are focused on local communities. We collaborate with individuals, agencies, and institutions to develop capacity for the use of the arts as a means of generating joy, strengthening bonds of unity, disseminating knowledge, and consolidating understanding. In short, we aim to contribute to the betterment of our communities through the arts.

We see the arts as an expression of human creativity. This human creativity, a gift all possess, is expressed in many aspects of our lives, particularly in artistic endeavours such as storytelling, drama, visual arts and music.

The inspiring belief that animates and shapes our actions at the Effie Baker Foundation is that every individual has capacity to contribute to the betterment of the world, provided they are given agency through education and environment, and conditions that allow for that.

TOWNSVILLE
Youth group creates and performs play
A group of young people from Townsville have spent their school holidays travelling the east coast of Queensland presenting a play about the life and service of an inspiring figure from history. The project began when a member of the youth group expressed his desire to develop his talent for acting. With support from a facilitator of the program, a small group of actors formed and brought the project to life. “The value of bringing things through theatre, it’s not the same as reading a book. Because you actually see the performance first hand, you get to relive what she went through, in person.” said one of the participants reflecting on using the arts.
