Our team consists of ‘Arts Promoters’ who work in their local community and neighbourhood settings to promote the use of the arts at the local level to contribute to the betterment of the community. At regular intervals, we also facilitate communities to share their experiences with each other directly through regional gatherings.

Grassroots Arts
Our core work at the Effie Baker Foundation is to facilitate the use of the arts in a neighbourhood or community setting, towards the advancement of the community.
'Arts Promoters' work shoulder to shoulder with the local neighbourhood to read the reality of the community, identify how the arts can be utilised and to co-create and facilitate activities that build local capacity to shape the arts towards their aims.
Practical examples of what this look like include: working with a local community group to run an arts-focused festival in the neighbourhood to strengthen the social fabric of the community, or to facilitate a youth group to use the arts to support local young people to develop their sense of self and wellbeing.
Arts Promoters work with diverse groups, and co-create approaches with the community. The focus of the arts work is on tangible, participative interaction with the arts in a way that aligns with guiding principles of wellbeing, individual nobility and dignity, and the importance of community.
The work is approached in a mode of learning. This means community groups are encouraged to try things out, reflect together, and draw out insights before planning new activities.
Our team works collaboratively together to share reflections and insights they have gathered in the field to the benefit of all communities. These learnings are also shared more widely in regional gatherings.
